The High Desert Rangeland Fire Protection Association will be hosting its first annual Fire Hose Roundup; all organizations’ are welcome to participate. This year’s focus will be in crew tasks, the Roundup will start at 9:00 am 11 March 2023, at the Edmunds Well Wildlife Sanctuary in Summer Lake   Training will be provided in a Round Robin format with 6 stations set up at different location trough the property. Lunch will be provided please contact Doug White @ 541-517-4826 with the number of fire fighters that will be attending so that so that we have a good head count.


 Crew Training Tasks:

Perform an Initial Size up: during this training task fire fighters will learn the correct procedure when arriving first at a fire, incident type, incident status, establish the IC and the fire name.  Contact 911 or SCOFMF and provide the information.

Perform Structural Triage: during this training task fire fighters will learn how to conduct a quick Structural Triage.

Deploy a portable tank and pump and draft using their own apparatus: during this training task fire fighters will learn how to setup a portable tank and pump, fill the tank with water and using their own truck draft from the tank to the truck and pump water

Extinguish a small brush fire with only hand tools: during this training task fire fighters will learn how to work together to extinguish a small brush fire, fire fighters will arrive on scene to a live burning brush fire and will be expected to extinguish it using only hand tools “hand tools will be available”.

Fire shelter:  Prepare the area around where the shelter will be used, what gear goes under the shelter with you and practice using a training shelter.

Controlled Burn: During this exercise fire fighters will learn how to prepare an area for a controlled burn, perform a hose lay, create temporary fire breaks, and protect trees and structures. Fill a drip torch with fuel; determine which direction to start from and mop-up activities.
